Decade is a homage to the ten years of compulsory education in Singapore that the composer grew up with, and essentially celebrates the spirit of learning in the teenage years. It is a very attractive overture with a firm structure that musicians and audiences can easily relate to, in an Allegro-Andante-Allegro-Grandioso progression. Every single instrumental line is meant to be as idiomatic and as accessible as possible, but when put together as a whole, creates a greater over-arching texture that creates an impressive mood in the concert hall that will be sure to tug at heartstrings. This work was commissioned by the Millenia Institute Symphonic Band in 2008, and is dedicated to all young people. 收起全文
